Charles Umlauf was a prolific and internationally known sculptor. There are over one hundred thirty sculptures on display at the Umlauf Sculpture Garden & Museum. Umlauf’s sculptures range from detailed realism to lyrical abstractions. His materials are equally diverse, from the exotic woods, terra cotta, or cast stone of his earlier works to the rich bronzes and luminous marbles of his prime. With equal facility, Umlauf sculpted family groups, delightful animals, religious and mythological figures, and sensuous nudes. Walking through the garden is a unique experience. Nearly hidden in the middle of a busy and growing city, The Umlauf has been described as a peaceful oasis “where art and nature join in serene harmony…” by Texas Highways Magazine.
