At the end of the 19th century, James Shoolbred Gibbes left a will and created a legacy. He wanted Charleston to have a permanent art museum which became the beaux arts-styled building that commands a presence on Meeting Street. The museum over the past century has grown in stature bringing nationally known exhibits, while promoting and encouraging artists from the South. The stature of the museum frames a showcase for special events. The Gibbes offers a wide variety of venues from small galleries for intamate cocktail parties or ceremonies, to the resplendent Rotunda. Combining galleries creates untold possibilities for up to 1,000 guests.
