In a unique and beautiful setting, not far from the natural splendor of Yosemite National Park, sits a fairy-tale kingdom that began as a dream. The dream belongs to chef, restaurateur, and hotelier Erna Kubin-Clanin. Over the course of the last 24 years, she has created a luxurious nine-acre sanctuary blending the charm and beauty of the Provençal region of France with central California’s lush landscape. The Estate by the Elderberries features the ten-bedroom Château du Sureau, Spa du Sureau, Erna’s Elderberry House Restaurant, and the private two-bedroom Villa Sureau.
If you dream of modern romance in a setting where time stands still and graciousness is a way of life, the Estate by the Elderberries is the perfect venue for your wedding of a lifetime. Nestled on a hill overlooking the grand Sierra Nevadas, the splendid Château du Sureau is blessed with European charm and a superb staff ready to attend to your every need. The Estate offers the warmth of a wedding at home, with family and dear friends on hand to celebrate, but without the worry of endless details and all the romance of the late 19th century. Here, you can be sure that every element, from fragrant flowers to fabulous reception cuisine, is simply unsurpassed.
Erna’s Elderberry House Restaurant has a seating capacity for 100 guests with three distinctively decorated dining rooms, each adorned with antique French provincial furnishings, magnificent tapestries, and original oil paintings. For larger events, the restaurant would be pleased to cater your affair off site at the location of your choosing. The Escoffier Dining Room boasts a 20-foot cathedral ceiling, three dramatic pewter chandeliers, and richly textured crimson walls. Tables are dressed in crisp, white damask linen, fine china, and Riedel crystal, and floor-to-ceiling windows offer views of the town below. French doors open onto a lovely garden terrace and, in cooler seasons, a fire crackles in the wood-burning fireplace. The Escoffier Dining Room comfortably accommodates receptions and dinner parties of up to 50 guests. Seating up to 38 guests, the Point Dining Room is a stunning example of Art Nouveau style, with deep hues of aubergine and shimmering silver providing a sensuous feeling of love and romance. Bay windows and two classic 1920s stained-glass windows frame views of the Sierra Nevadas. For an intimate dinner party of up to 12 guests, the Bocuse Dining Room is comfortably dressed in shades of soft sage and features a bold stucco fireplace, Provencal pewter chandelier, and views of the estate gardens and Château.
